Mini Autobiography

My name is Emily Wolford and I’m a recent graduate of Ball State University. I graduated in May 2022 with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education, concentration in mathematics, and a minor in African American Studies. I completed these studies through the Teachers College and Honors College.

Throughout my time in college I was an active member of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity, and hold alumni status. I’ve held many leadership positions while on campus including serving as the Chapter President for The National Society of Collegiate Scholars! Freshmen year I was a member of the Best Buddies club as well as serving on the Outreach Committee for the Make-a-Wish Foundation at Ball State. I have also been active in the community, volunteering my time at Minnestrista, A Better Way, Motivate our Minds, and many more small / local events.

Outside of school time, I love to spend time with my friends and family. Some of my favorite hobbies are hiking and being outdoors. I love to play sports and growing up I earned my first and second degree black belts in Taekwondo!

Education & Expertise

Summer 2022 – I accepted a job offer as a lead preschool teacher for The Playschool in Saxony Village. I will work with children ages 0-5 and spend most of my time in the infant and toddler classrooms.

Spring 2022 – I began my student teaching placement at Maple Ridge Elementary in Pendleton, Indiana. I worked in a 5th grade and 1st grade classroom for 8 weeks each.

Summer 2021 – I accepted a job offer as an associate teacher for preschool students at Mitchell Early Childhood and Family Center in Muncie, Indiana. I work with ages 0-5 and spend most of my time in the infant room with the younger babies.

Spring 2021 – Meeting virtually via Zoom and teaching students twice a week for a total of 6 weeks. Students were 2nd graders at Burris Laboratory School in Muncie, Indiana. I taught about summarizing and key aspects of a story. I also focused on generating an overall theme of a story, and creating a symbol to represent the chosen theme.

Fall 2019 – Meeting with students twice a week at Burris Laboratory School in Muncie, Indiana. I taught a group of four 1st grade students about how to construct a paper compass and about the cardinal directions.

Fall 2018 – I began my college experience at Ball State as a secondary mathematics major and spent the first semester observing once a week a 7th grade remedial math course at Southside Middle School in Muncie, Indiana. This experience helped me change my major to Elementary Education.

Prior to 2018 – I attended a middle class suburban high school in Indiana. My experience begins with teaching children and adults of all ages Taekwondo lessons through my academy. While not academic, the teaching experience I gained was still very insightful and helped pave way for a future career in teaching others.
